Chaz & Jill - really informative podcast. Another feature that you may want to use is the Broadcast Box. We do have one! Its in the right hand column of your Personal Profile.
This enables you to send out a broadcast message to anyone who has added you as a friend. So while a “friend” online has a different meaning than offline, there is certainly a benefit to having more people add you as friends.
We are considering providing more “friend” categories to the site so that members can categorize relationships more accurately.
Regarding your comment about people who make large number of friends quickly. They are spending a lot of time on the site adding friends and many reciprocate. Making friends in an unatural fashion actually triggers some penalties which decrease their blog ranking in the index.
The reason someone who doesnt have a cooking blog has friend with so many cooking bloggers is that when you looking at their Personal Profile it is displaying members they have added as a friend. It isnt showing a Mutual Friendship between the cooking blogger and the non cooking blogger.
Thanks for all your support and kind words. We are always pleased to here our user’s stories about their experience with the site and the new friends and blogs they find. We’ve posted a link to this podcast on our discussion forum and really hope our users will take the time to listen and make an effort to leave more genuine comments. Thanks!
