Have You Heard The Buzz

So today’s big buzz was all about Google Buzz. It seemed like everywhere I turned online today, there was Google Buzz. It was in my Gmail and on my iPhone. It was in my rss feeds and in my Skype conversations. It was everywhere and to tell you the truth…I liked it.

It may be a little George Orwell, but I like being connected to people. It speeds my learning and makes me feel healthy. It makes conversations fluid and puts a certain finger tip to my interactions that I was starting to feel with Twitter and Facebook.

I’ll be interested to see what the privacy settings are like as Google continues to roll out more and more of their social search features along with all the other social networking pieces they’ve been quietly working on.

What do you think? Is Buzz to inner circle for you or does it get you all excited?

Ready to watch those super bowl commercials again with your friends in real time along with chat? Until this very moment, you probably hadn’t event considered it, but now you can courtesy of SynchTube, the new real time Youtube sharing service.

Here’s what the SynchTube website has to say about their service.

Ever want to share a video with your friend or family, but wish you were there with them to watch so you could enjoy the moment together? synchtube solves this problem by allowing you to share a video in real-time. Simply paste a YouTube link and create a room. You can share this room with others, and watch videos in real-time

To tell the truth, I never knew I was deficient in this area of my life. But now that I think about it, it would be fun to load up a whole playlist of my favorite videos, and then spam the crap out of my friends so that we could all sit around and chat about the best parts of the show. It’s like creating your own customized break from reality. But now, instead of just surfing Youtube clips by yourself, you can compile a list of your most favorite videos and then get the crew together.

I can see all sorts of possibilities for this. Everything from watching family video clips to viewing network TV reruns, American Idol rants to stupid pet tricks. There really is no end to the combinations. You could even use this for rebroadcasting training materials and then collecting feedback and answering questions in the ensuing chat session. It really does seem useful to me.

But there’s one thing I see here. This site is either going to be ad supported, subscription based, or a Youtube buyout at some point. It seems like a natural fit to be purchased by Youtube and then integrated into the existing offering. That is if Google doesn’t just “borrow” the idea first and then claim it as their own.

Things To Do With An Apple iPad

In honor of Apple’s iPad announcement I decided to hold an informal Facebook poll to find out what my friends would do with a new Apple iPad.

Here’s a sample of their answers.

Matthew said, “Portable blogging platform. Family photo album. Control device for external systems (ex: touchpad for desktop computer). Temporary wall art (dock on wall charger and run screensaver)”. Would definitely use it for email, as it’s a device made for consumption (vs. creation). Another use would be wireframing websites — drag and drop elements into a grid for live mockup sessions with clients.

Christopher said, “The iPad is the perfect tool for kids in school. Imagine having every book you need on a single iPad? Imagine being able to do your classwork or homework without lugging the text books and work books in your backpack or under your arm? This is a different take on One Laptop per Child (OLPC), but a decent attempt nonetheless.”

Lynton said, “To prop up the wonky leg on my dining table! I think they could have made it heaps better. I mean not even a USB port or anything.”

These are all great answers, but let’s not lose focus of what’s really important here, the humor.

What Do Hackers And Sara Palin Have In Common?

They’ve both been into her yahoo email accounts. Apparently hackers broke into Sarah Palin’s Yahoo mail accounts using the password reset feature of Yahoo mail and posted screen shots of her email on the Wikileaks whistle-blowing site.

According to a story published on the BBC website, she had two Yahoo email accounts.

I don’t know about you, but all I use my old Yahoo account for is trapping spam sites that make me give an address to download something. Yahoo hasn’t had my business since they sold out their customer base for some quick cash back when the dot com bubble burst and ad revenue went in the toilet.

Apparently there are some issues to consider since Palin is under investigation for her activities while governing the fine state of Alaska. Somewhere during all of this hacking business her accounts were deleted. I don’t know about you, but that is pretty convenient timing. Oh, I’m not saying she planned it. I’m just saying it sure is convenient.

Do You Need Netflix On Your iPhone

I saw a report today that Netflix could be showing up on the iPhone and iPod Touch soon. All I gotta say about that is, “Hell Yeah! Bring it on!”

Okay, I know what your thinking. Why do I need to have Netflix Instant Watch video on my iPhone? Isn’t it enough that I already use my Mac to access the service, which I then shoot on the wall using my DLP Projector? You might think so, but that just doesn’t speak to the level of laziness that I’d like to become accustomed too. I could easily learn to lay in bed and watch last seasons The Office on my iPhone without the least bit of guilt.

What about you? Would Netflix on the iPhone do anything to boost your TV watching skills or are you just too afraid to admit you’re not person enough to handle the challenge?
