Our Goal Here Is Not To Suck!
That’s the opening line of the pep talk I want to hear from every leader who ever expects to lead me anywhere. Twenty years ago I spent 1 year in 29 Palms California as part of Uncle Sams Misguided Children (USMC) and while I was there one Marine Sergeant impressed me so much that to this day I can still see his face and I still believe that I’d charge head long with him into the flames of hell. While other so called “leaders” were just getting by and “keeping their noses clean”, this Marine was speaking plainly and expecting results. He was ready to take the heat for any mistakes so long as we worked hard and followed orders. Now, I’m not much of a follower at heart so the fact that he influenced me so much says a lot in my book.
So today, when you go out in the world remember two things: 1) people are listening to what you say, 2) try not to suck!
